The reversible lane consists of two lanes which, during the morning and evening rush hours, enables an improved flow of traffic between Almere (A6), Amsterdam (A1) and Schiphol. The Royal VolkerWessels company Vialis completed this unique project two years ahead of schedule.
The reversible lane is a complex project. Key to the project was collaboration and correctly identifying the needs and requirements. The Department of Waterways and Public Works [Rijkswaterstaat] and Vialis jointly began by drawing up a list of over 900 requirements, which the system had to fulfil. Different systems needed to merge into one reversible lane application. Vialis developed an integral solution for this.
“Vialis has moved towards offering an integrated solution, and I think that they have done a very good job with this project, which has ultimately resulted in the entire A1/A6 project being delivered faster and more than two years earlier than planned which, for such a large project, is a mega achievement. The Department of Waterways and Public Works is proud of this achievement, however, all parties that contributed also have good reason to take pride in it”. Hans Ruijter, Program Director of the Department of Waterways and Public Works.
